From the Large Bath on the top floor, you can see a large panoramic view of Mt.Tanigawa and Mikuni Mountains. "Koganenoyu", the hot water typical of Ikaho Onsen, is Flowing from the Source to the bath. (Kokuya is one of nine ryokan that can draw "Koganenoyu" directly from the source.)

In the lobby, tourists will be welcomed by the cute hanging decorations of folk art accessories. Kokuya provides many services that are nice for women. (Such as strolling down Stone Steps Street with colorful yukata rentals.)

The area around Ikaho Onsen is famous for autumn leaves. In autumn, maples color the mountains, and the autumn leaves are lit up around Kajika Bridge.

Travel journal of day trip bathing to hot spring

Characters

Nishi-san
Nishi-san
He is an orthodox hot springs lover and particular about quality of springs. He loves the hot springs flowing from the source, the hot water with a presence, and the rustic atmosphere.
Kita-san
Kita-san
He doesn't care much about quality of hot springs. He loves the open-air bath, and prefers hot springs that have visible features such as good views.

(→ Continuation from Yokotekan)
This time, Nishi-san and Kita-san are revisiting Ikaho Onsen to enjoy the hot springs and autumn leaves together. The next they heading is Ryokan "Kokuya".

Kokuya exterior, Ikaho Onsen

Exterior

It looks like a ordinary hotel.

Right.

In the lobby of the hotel, the photogenic hanging decorations first catch your eyes. But, ...

Kokuya Hanging decorations in the lobby, Ikaho Onsen

Hanging decorations in the lobby

Gee. There is something. What is this? Is it just a decoration?

I have no idea.

... Somehow, you are low key, aren't you?

Well, I'm not really interested in like this ...

You would be ... If you're a girl, you might like this ...

Hmm ... Maybe.

Nishi-san and Kita-san who react little to the hospitality of the hotel. Without paying attention to the gorgeous kimono, or the beautiful flower arrangement displayed in the lobby, they go straight to the bath "Nagamenoyu" on the 6th-floor. The view from here is one of the pride of Kokuya.

Kokuya indoor bath, Ikaho Onsen

Indoor bath

Oh, it has an open feeling. The view is pretty good!

Exactly, nice view. It's fine today so we're lucky, right?

Nagamenoyu has two bathtubs, and into the one of which, "Koganenoyu" is poured. (Koganenoyu is the typical hot water of Ikaho Onsen.) At once, Nishi-san and Kita-san get into the bathtub of Koganenoyu.

Kokuya view from indoor bath, Ikaho Onsen

View from indoor bath

After all, hot spring plus good view are the best.

You're a view person. From my personal view.

Its temperature can be relaxed and feels good!

Oh? Something is written on the water spout ... Ah, in short, it's not heated.

Kokuya hot water spout of Koganenoyu, Ikaho Onsen

Hot water spout of Koganenoyu

It's just right temperature without heating. It's easy to be in so I like this.

Besides the temperature, but the hot water itself has mellowed. It feels like the smell of iron is a lot missing. Well, it may be easy to be in.

The two go out to the open-air bath.

Ikaho Onsen's Koganenoyu is centrally managed, and only nine ryokan can be drawn directly from its source.

Kokuya open-air bath, Ikaho Onsen

Open-air bath

Wow! There are trees and rocks! The rooftop of a building, but it's natural. A little bit small, but not bad.

Yeah, could be ... Oops! It was dangerous! Its bottom is slippery quite a bit.

Oh, really. A little slimy ... It's not very good, I think ...

It may be better to use the indoor bath to relax.

Hmm, certainly, soaking in the tub, the view of mountains cannot be seen... It's such a shame!

Nishi-san and Kita-san spent a relaxing time at the Ryokan Kokuya until dusk. It was time to go to see the autumn leaves lit up, they decided to make a detour and walk up the Stone Steps Street.

Stone Steps Street in the twilight, Ikaho Onsen

Stone Steps Street in the twilight

Look, it's full of atmospheres of a hot spring town.

Feels like nostalgic, you know.

As the sky draws lavender-color gradients, the Stone Steps Street is illuminated. The laughter of people coming and going melts down into the twilight, slowly and slowly.

(November 2019)

It seems that the bottom of open-air bath is slippery because of yunohana in the hot water.

Impression & rating

The freshness of the hot water is lower than that of the open-air bath near the source. But as a result of that, it can be said that it has mellowed.

3.0 pt

Impression & rating

It's not good that the open-air bath is slippery, but the view from the bathing room is nice. The lukewarm water is good to take a long bath.

Ikaho Onsen craft beer Ishidan Monogatari

Ikaho Onsen craft beer "Ishidan Monogatari"

The craft beer limited to Ikaho Onsen, that named "Ishidan Monogatari" (it means "stone steps story"). It is made at Kawaba Denen Plaza, a roadside station in Kawaba Village in Gunma Prefecture.

It's a Weizen, but I guess it has a clean and refreshing taste than general Weizen. Anyway, as far as seeing this label, the view that the most picturesque on the Stone Steps Street is this shot.
